Hostel du Nord Expands Group Lodging Options In Grand Fashion

After two and a half years in business, Hostel du Nord is expanding its operation to include an additional 6,000 square feet of sleeping, lounging, and multidimensional recreation space. Opening Annex du Nord was a necessary move, especially considering area visitors will be seeking a tad more spaciousness, in general, this summer. Hostel du Nord owner, Bob Monahan, says “We are increasing our capacity in terms of a number of guests and our capacity to give all of our guests a better experience in respect to their safety and comfort. We are especially excited about our options for groups, both large and small.”

The new building, expected to be unveiled in late June, is located literally a stone’s throw from Hostel du Nord’s back door. Besides providing guests with a broader range of sleeping options, a full kitchen with an adjacent dining area, the main floor features a massive, open room dedicated to encouraging “play” and socializing among guests. Monahan feels that encouraging guests to interact through activities that bring out a more playful mentality is a great way to promote the traditionally held values of hostels around the world.

A projector for watching movies, yoga mats, and a ping pong table will be among the activities offered. Floor hockey and pickleball are in the “coming soon” column, for now.

As for the sleeping arrangements, groups of all shapes and sizes are able to be accommodated as never before. The Annex boasts a sleeping capacity of 50, which includes: three 8-person dorm-style rooms, four 5-person rooms, as well as three private 2-person rooms. Additionally, there are six full baths, a kitchenette on the main floor, ample bike and board storage, and a 20-spot, on-site parking lot which also features a massive flower garden.

The grander vision for Annex du Nord includes opening the space up for community events as well as retreats. The entire building will be available for private rentals and one-off concerts and other types of special events. For now, it will serve as arguably the best option for group accommodation in the Twin Ports.
